Democrats should forget about purity: We’re up against authoritarianism, corruption, and disregard for the rule of law. Getting out won’t be easy. Getting out will require working with Republicans of conscience–patriots–with whom we have grave disagreements about policy, in ordinary times.

These are not ordinary times.

In the coming and final months of their terms, Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Bill Cassidy–both primaried out of the upcoming election by Trump’s vengeance tour against members of his own party–have unique opportunity to continue stepping up to fight the trampling of our Constitution in order to serve the interests of one man. Based upon their current respective postures, it seems highly likely they will do so. Democrats of conscience should support them, without hesitation or apology.
